Tanita Tikaram

Still stuck in the 80's I'm afraid....

Gary Moore & Phil Lynott - Out in the Fields (1985)

Couldn't help myself today. Feeling a bit "over-nostalgic" (if that gets past the grammar-nazis).
I cured the affliction by playing this track over and over.....
Check out the weird guitar Moore uses halfway through the song. It's apparently a "SynthAxe".
God-damn how I miss the 80's....

El Espinazo del Diablo (2001)

The Devil's Backbone

Guillermo del Toro's sibling-movie for "El Laberinto del Fauno" (Pan's Labyrinth).
It is similar in many ways. However, this is more of a ghost story...

My rating: 6 out of 10

The Matador (2005)

In short:
Pierce Brosnan plays a hitman, burned out and with no social life.
Greg Kinnear is your average business man.
The two meet at a hotel in Mexico.
Hitman needs a friend, or does he have a hidden agenda?

Some scenes were great, but it didn't quite work for me overall.

My rating: 6 out of 10

The Prestige (2006)

Highly recommended!

Lucky Number Slevin (2006)

Hmm. Haven't I seen this movie before? Yes. I have.
Take one third "Yojimbo"(1961) (or "A Fistful of Dollars"(1964) and "Last Man Standing"(1996)).
One third "Leon"(1994), and finally one third of your average straight-to-video-revenge-flick.
Voila: LNS.
The twist at the end appears too early (if you hadn't already figured it out). Yawn. With 25 minutes to go, this really drags on....
Poor casting: Josh Hartnett, Lucy Liu anyone (?), also drags this movie into some kind of tripe.
Bruce Willis is OK, but then again he basically did the same role in "Last Man Standing".
Ben Kingsley and Morgan Freeman are both auto-pilot-mode.
My rating: 4 out of 10.

Clerks II (2006)

This sequal doesn't quite hold up to the standard of the first movie, but nevertheless it was quite enjoyable in parts....
My rating: 6 out of 10.

Casino Royale (2006)

Watched Casino Royale yesterday, and found this formula to be a good summation:
Vin Diesel's xXx + Terminator 2's T1000 = The New Bond (i.e. robotic Daniel Craig).
...or, in other words: A poor attempt at breathing new life into the Bond character.
My grade: 3 out of 10.

This was fun though:

RIP Ian....

I'll begin this blog on a sad note....

The british actor Ian Richardson passed away last friday.
Those who do/did not know of him,
should remedy this immediately!

It's first and foremost the "House of Cards"-trilogy you should check out.
